The company Volkswagen has officially announced the withdrawal from the world rally championship WRC. The factory team of the German brand will finish the current season, but next to participate will be gone.
“The Volkswagen brand has faced serious challenges. In connection with the forthcoming electrification of the model range, we must focus all our energies on the technologies of the future. We exceeded all expectations in the WRC, and now let us regroup Volkswagen Motorsport to move forward,” said a member of the Board of Volkswagen Frank Welsh. The automaker will pay more attention to client competition, in particular cross-country rally and the German touring car championship TCR. Also, the company will prepare a new rally VW Polo category R5.
Resignation from Volkswagen WRC competition, it was announced at one stage up to completion of the current season, which will be held November 17-20 in Australia.
