Ukraine can increase the fines for seat belts

The Parliament can toughen administrative punishment for violation of rules of use of seat belts and motorcycle helmets. Fines for such violations, proposed to increase from 51 to 850 hryvnia.

As reports the information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the draft law “On amendments to article 121 of the code of Ukraine about administrative offenses (concerning the reduction of death and injury on highways by increasing the use of seat belts and helmets) No. 8492 reviewed by the Committee on legislative support of law enforcement on 5 September. The Committee recommends that the Verkhovna Rada adopt it as a basis.

In particular, proposes to encourage the use of seat belts and motorcycle helmets for drivers and passengers hryvnia, increasing the amount of the fine for a similar offense with 51 UAH. up to 850 UAH. According to members of the Committee, the need to adopt new rules based on high level of death and injury on the roads of Ukraine in the result of massive neglect of seat belts and helmets.

According to official data of national police, every year on the roads of Ukraine killed at least 3.5 thousand injured and at least 35 thousand people, that is, every day it kills more than 9 people. According to these indicators, accident rates and accident consequences of Ukraine is one of the leaders among European countries.
