As reported on Monday, the Washington Post, the White house had prepared a statement in memory of McCain, in which he called the hero, but trump refused to publish it. The Senator himself, preparing for imminent departure, said he doesn’t want the President attended his funeral, asking instead to invite the Vice-President Mike Pence, whom they served together in Congress.
Weekend over the White house lowered the flags in memory of McCain, but on Monday they again raised.
McCain even in the last weeks of his life, sharply criticized the presidency of trump, condemn his behavior at the summit in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The damage caused by the naivety of trump, his self-love, false perceptions of equivalence and sympathy for authoritarian leaders, it is difficult to assess, – said the Senator. But it is obvious that the summit in Helsinki was a tragic mistake.”
Instead of official statements trump the White house released quotes numerous members of the administration with praise for McCain, especially his valiant military service and independence in politics.
Meanwhile, the Minister of foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, on Monday signed the book of condolences at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi: “it was he who played a leading role in healing the wounds of war and normalize relations between the U.S. and Vietnam.”
A monument to McCain on the banks of lake Hanoi, where he was captured in 1967 after reports of the death of Senator has become a place of pilgrimage: there bring flowers, incense and other memorable gifts.
