Medvedev explained stop Russian tanks in Tbilisi in 2008
In 2008 Russia had the task to defeat the Georgian army, or to punish Saakashvili. The goal was to dislodge the Georgian troops from Tskhinvali and bring order, told the newspaper “Kommersant” Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the anniversary of the armed conflict between Russia and Georgia.
“I think that did the right thing when he decided to exercise restraint and not to force further action,” — said the Prime Minister Medvedev, who served from 2008-2012 as President of Russia. In his opinion, de-escalation of military action helped to calm the situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia and to come to peaceful relations with the EU and other countries.
The Prime Minister described the reason for the start of the conflict is immoral and criminal behaviour of Mikheil Saakashvili, who was in those years, the President of Georgia. Medvedev suggested that before the introduction of troops into South Ossetia, Saakashvili spoke with their patrons in the United States.
Georgia sent troops into South Ossetia on the night of 7 to 8 August 2008 and tried to take the region under its control. Intervened in the conflict Russia, which drove the Georgian military out of Tskhinvali. After the cessation of hostilities, Moscow officially recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.More important news Telegram-channel “Tape days”. Signed!
