Medvedev called illegal unilateral international sanctions
Unilateral sanctions, which in the last few years it became popular to enter by one state against the other, lie outside the legal field and are pressure, said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, speaking at the VI St. Petersburg international legal forum.
According to Medvedev, States must trust each other. “We see the increasing role of unilateral agreements, which are used by some countries for political purposes”, — said the Prime Minister. He added that it is contrary to international agreements and contrary to the legal principles.
The Prime Minister also said that sanctions will have “to bear the responsibility not only legal, but also historical”. According to him, unilateral sanctions are “vague and in the content and in the group of persons to which they apply”. “There are attempts to make these sanctions are extraterritorial in nature, to push them all over the world, against all agreements and international law”, — said the Prime Minister.
Against Russia are the Western sanctions imposed after the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea to Russia. Russia says that the events in Donbass are the internal conflict in Ukraine and the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula has passed based on the will of inhabitants of Crimea.
“What kind of trust in the law can there be a speech? Frankly, the question of how our colleagues in the international community will come out of this situation that he created themselves, remains open, although behind the scenes he sets. It is always easier to break than to observe,” said the Prime Minister. “States parties must trust each other, based on fundamental principles of international law. Must be willing to compromise, respect partners,” he said.
Earlier, speaking at the St. Petersburg forum, Medvedev described the credibility of the law the only way to resolve the crisis.
