One of the victims of the football coach, Barry Bennell Hollyoaks, on the current football abuse storyline advises.

Steve Walters said of the plot, the Trainer Buster groom Ollie sees “very difficult” but “spot on”.

Walters was among those who spoke out about Bennell, arrested him in February for the abuse of boys.

“We all know that it will go still further, and even worse than ever before, so this is such an important issue,” Walters said.

Once considered one of England’s most promising young player, Walters was abused at the age of 12, when he would stay at Bennell’s house during the school holidays.

Together with Duncan Craig, chief executive of male abuse charity Survivors Manchester, has he timeslot with Hollyoaks, in order to ensure that your rotary books are realistic – within the limits of what can be shown, in its 18.30 PM.

The viewers have seen the Channel 4 show, Buster Smith, played by Nathan Sussex, booty teenager aspiring footballer Ollie Morgan, played by Aedan Duckworth.

The plot reaches a climax this week and Walters, who now runs The trust for Offside, came the occupation of a Royal Television Society preview screening in Salford on Monday.

“It was very difficult to see,” he said afterwards. He praised the actors, but said it was “uncomfortable” Sussex, because of certain things about Buster reminded him of Bennell.

He added: “Watching that today was certainly very realistic. I know you have a window of time, this can be very frustrating, but the way the grooming process from Buster [was] to be fair.”

Walters and Craig proposed changes to scripts in an attempt to ensure that they seized were from the life.

Craig said he believed that Hollyoaks had contributed to an increase in the survivors of abuse to contact with his charity, since the action been on the air, while Walters said people had contacted him directly.

“I’ve got someone in their 20s contact me – you’ve watched Hollyoaks and that was the trigger for them to come forward,” he said. “So, even if no one else comes forward, there is another person.”

In February, Barry Bennell imprisoned for 31 years for 50 cases of sexual abuse.

Described as “incarnate” by the judge in Liverpool Crown Court, he was in need of doomed to failure, 12 boys aged eight to 15 between 1979 and 1991.
