Katie Hopkins Net Worth: How Much Does the Controversial Columnist Earn?

Katie Hopkins is a media personality, columnist, political commentator, businesswoman, and someone who supports far-right ideology. In 2007 she was a mere candidate for The Apprentice. And after the show, she became a prominent columnist for British national newspapers. She wrote for the Sun (2013), for MailOnline, which is the online website for The Daily Mail, from 2015 – 2017.  Katie Hopkins also had her own television show in the year 2015, known as If Katie Hopkins Ruled the World. She also appeared on the 15th series of Celebrity Big Brother, wherein she finished as a runner-up. Hopkins recently joined the UK Independence Party, UKIP.  Her outspoken views on UK Politics have not always been accepted whole-heartedly by the people. She has been accused of racism for her comments about migration.

Hopkins appeared as a cast member of the Big Brother VIP Series of Australia, but after having posted on social media that she was flagrantly breaching COVID-19 regulations, she was fired. Katie Hopkins was consequently fined and deported from Australia.

Katie Hopkins: Early Life and Career

She was born Katie Olivia Hopkins on the 13th of February, 1975, in England. Her father was an engineer, and her mother was a bank teller. Katie has one older sister and attended a convent school until 16. She knows how to play the piano and the violin. As a child, she was inclined towards the military. Katie studied economics at the University of Exeter, and she spent her weekends in the Officer’s Training Corps. She finished her military training at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, but was unable to take up her commission because of an epileptic seizure. So she joined a business consultancy services company and moved to New York City. She returned to the UK in 2005 and joined Met Office in 2006.

From Met Office, she was given an unpaid leave as she went on to take part in the Apprentice. As a candidate, she had to compete for a £100,000 per annum job for Alan Sugar, a businessman. In the end, Hopkins actually rejected the position. But throughout her on-camera time, she made several comments which were critical. Then in 2007, Hopkins lost her job, and then she signed 2 deals with News of the World and EMAP to sell her story of the Appearance. 

CAREER IN MEDIA:

After The Apprentice, Katie Hopkins starred in an episode of Loose Women, the Friday Night Project, and 8 out of 10 Cats. She also presented a report on family life on BBC Radio 5 Live. Hopkins also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2015 and ended up being the 1st Runner Up. She has since then appeared 2 times on Question Time as well. Katie Hopkins also appeared on an episode of 10 O’Clock Live on 24th April 2013 to discuss the death and life of Margaret Thatcher, a former British PM, who had died just that month.

In order to prove that obese people can diet successfully, she subsequently gained and lost 19 kg. Her progress was caught on camera and was televised on “My Fat Story” for TLC. TLC also then allowed her to begin her own chat show: If Katie Hopkins Ruled the World, but the show was later cancelled due to low ratings. Next came her Sunday Morning Talk Show on LBC. But she was fired after her controversial comments on Manchester Arena Bombing.

CAREER IN PRINT AND ONLINE PAPERS: 

Towards the latter half of 2013, Katie Hopkins was a weekly columnist for The Sun. The newspaper promoted her as Britain’s Most Controversial Columnist.  She left The Sun for the Mail Online website, of which she was again fired for many controversial comments. Mail Online had to pay fines on her behalf for falsely accusing a Muslim family of having links with extremist groups and for falsely claiming that a teacher, Jackie Teale, took her students to Trump’s protests. She herself paid damages for libel to Jack Monroe in the case Monroe v Hopkins in 2017. Recently, in 2020, she was permanently suspended from Twitter and took to Parler as an alternative.

Katie Hopkins is now 46 years old. She is a British newspaper writer and also a TV Personality. Katie is known for her controversial comments, but she calls herself a “conduit of truth” and for saying what others are afraid to speak out loud. Due to her controversial talks, she has had to pay out damages. In the Monroe v Hopkins case, she had to sell her house in Exeter to pay the damages. Currently, she has a net worth of $500 thousand.
