What do we have here?

The new design reflects the changes in the Office lately. Since 2007, three versions of the icons of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, portrayed the sheet of paper. Now the company has shifted its focus from the specific formats for the content and collaboration capabilities.

As the head design Office John Friedman (Jon Friedman), the idea was to split the letter and the symbol on the icon. Turned out two layers which can later be combined or used separately. Designers are playing with shades of colors, at the same time trying to maintain awareness of style.

When to wait?

The change will affect all platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Implementation will begin in the coming months, the first will be the Office web applications and mobile devices.

The designers also showed new icons for Skype, OneDrive, Microsoft and Yammer Teams. The company wants to bring to a single style all of its services, but it will take some time.
