The tv wildlife presenter Johnny Kingdom has been killed in an accident on their land.
Filmmaker, photographer and writer, specialized in your local area of Exmoor and north Devon, died on Thursday night.
The police confirmed emergency services were called to a field near Wadham Cross at Knowstone, Devon, to reports that an excavator tipped over.
At 79 years of age, was declared dead at the scene by the emergency services.More stories from Devon
His family requested privacy, but issued a brief statement in which he said: “Unfortunately, a legend has been lost.
“Johnny would like all of you to continue with your love for Exmoor, as all of you meant a lot to him.
“As the loving man that he himself would have said ‘Goodbye to all you lovely people’.”
Mr Kingdom was born and raised on the edge of Exmoor and he worked as a gravedigger, a quarryman and a lumberjack until an accident while felling trees.
He then began to make wildlife movies and, in 2006, his first BBC series 2, A Year On Exmoor, was seen by over three million people.
