Chief Rabbi of Russia noted the contribution of Joseph Kobzon in the fight against nationalism and judeophobia

Moscow. August 30. INTERFAX – Rabbi Berel Lazar expressed condolences to the family of Joseph Kobzon and noted his contribution to the fight against anti-Semitism.

“It was in every sense of the word a proud Jew. We all remember how it was still a very young man, the Communist apparatchiks tried to persuade him to change the Jewish name, threatening otherwise to break his professional career, and he flatly refused and just made it on his talent,” said the Rabbi in his condolences to the family of the departed singer.

Lazar noted that in the most difficult years of anti-Semitism I. Kobzon always publicly showed their Jewishness, sing Jewish songs with the largest and most prestigious scenes: “in fact, he was one of those people whose efforts fell the evil Empire and there is a new, free Russia”.

“And in recent years he has used his powers of the Deputy of the state Duma for uncompromising struggle against aggressive nationalism and Jew-hatred, and the post of Chairman of the Public Council of the FJC for the return of their compatriots to the Torah and commandments to our ancient traditions!” – said the Rabbi, assuring that the bright memory about this singer will remain forever in his heart and in the hearts of all his co-religionists in Russia.
