The head of the Duma Committee on development of civil society may lead the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy

Moscow. June 22. INTERFAX – the Head of the Duma Committee on civil society development issues, public and religious organisations Sergey Gavrilov nominated as a candidate for the presidency of the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), stated in the press service of the Duma Committee said Friday.

25 to June 30 will be a meeting of the 25th General Assembly of the IAP in Athens in which will take part the delegation of the state Duma.

“The event will be the elections of the President of the General Assembly of the IAP. Candidate for President of the IAP from the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation became the head of the Duma Committee on civil society development issues, public and religious organisations Sergey Gavrilov,” – said in the message.

The President of the General Assembly of the IAPA shall be elected for two years.

Gavrilov noted that over a quarter of a century the inter-parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy has become an iconic international organization which upholds the role of Christianity and Christian values in the international arena.

The Russian delegation during the visit he plans to meet with the President of Greece Prokopis pavlopoulos a, Chairman of the Greek Parliament, Nikolaos Volcom and Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Hieronymus.
