The United States welcomed the proposal from the Afghan authorities on a temporary truce with the Taliban

The government of Afghanistan has offered to cease hostilities during the celebration of Eid al-Adha

The United States welcomes the proposal of the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani about a temporary truce between the forces of the Afghan government and the Taliban to allow citizens to celebrate Eid al-Fitr without fear of violence, said U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo. Previously, the Ulema Council of Afghanistan called on the Taliban to end the campaign of violence against Afghan citizens and the government. “The proposal of the Afghan government on a temporary truce underscores its commitment to peace as a national and religious duty. We support the Afghan people in laying the foundations of the peace process, which will be led by the Afghans themselves,” said Pompeo.
