“Manifested continued interest of Bulgaria to be a part of large international energy projects. This is a separate issue, which requires guarantees from the Bulgarian side. You know that there are projects that are currently underway. Of particular interest to the Bulgarian side is showing, but no concrete talks on this matter have been conducted,” — said the representative of the Kremlin.
Bulgarian President arrived on a two-day visit to Russia on may 21, he met in Moscow with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, 22 may — in Sochi with Vladimir Putin. It was the first meeting of the presidents of Russia and Bulgaria for ten years.
In conversation with Russian Prime Minister rumen Radev expressed the hope that the question of direct gas supplies from Russia under the Black sea will be revised. According to him, the question of energy supplies is for Bulgaria and the European Union are very important. He also proposed to build a direct gas pipeline, which would connect Russia and Bulgaria via the Black sea.
The construction of a gas pipeline under the Black sea was stopped in 2014. South stream was to link the Anapa district and the Bulgarian port city of Varna, Russia, however, due to the unconstructive position of the European Union announced the abandonment of the project in favour of “Turkish stream.”
