Mercedes-Maybach GLS to the function “next” at the level of the suspension tech

The next Mercedes-Maybach models will have “next level” suspension systems which will be an advanced version of Mercedes’ Magic Body Control set-up, based on the Maybach, chief engineer Jürgen Weissinger.

He said that one of the key elements is a new camera system, “so we have a better information of the roads so that drivers can slip on the road”.

A new training program aimed at drivers is also introduced to the next generation of models Maybach.

“We’ve done a special order program, which means that the gearchanges doesn’t happen too often, so that the driver can lead to a very comfortable, luxury. It works without changes of speed and with maximum torque,” said Weissinger.

These features are first expected to appear on the upcoming Maybach GLS, which is expected to be unveiled at Los Angeles motor show in November. During this time, the Ultimate Vision of Luxury concept shown in Beijing (below) could do the production if she gets a good response, ” said Weissinger.

Talks about the concept of the electric motor, Weissinger said Maybach is to discuss the way in which it could bring electrical energy in its models in the next five to 10 years.

He cited the founders Karl and Wilhelm Maybach and 1923 half-speed automatic gearbox as proof that the brand is synonymous of innovative, high-tech cars.

He said: “We need to look at electric-powered cars. But we have the 12-cylinder engine and it is a luxury, the smoothness of the engine. The people want to. But if you speak to the innovation of Maybach customers, they are also interested in what the future looks like. We need to discover how to bring the high technology of electric cars in the future.”

However, while some of its rivals, such as the Lagonda, focusing on electric models, Weissinger sees hybrids as a “bridge” technology for Maybach. “You could have a 12-cylinder engine with a gearbox with an electric motor on it,” he said. “There are a lot of possibilities to make the good combination between a large engine and [electric] motor.”
