Sands on the situation in Ukraine: aimed at the split of the Church actions are not welcome

Moscow. April 19. INTERFAX – Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov warned against actions that could lead to a deepening of the split of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

“You know the position of the Russian Orthodox Church, you know the position of Patriarch of all Russia on this issue. Of course, any actions aimed at splitting the Church, can hardly be sustained and are unlikely to welcome,” said Dmitry Peskov, answering journalists ‘ question whether the Kremlin is the creation of the Ukrainian national Church.

Earlier it was reported that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the appeal of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the establishment of the Autocephalous local Orthodox Church.

P. Poroshenko said that the issue of granting autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine is a geopolitical.

“It goes far beyond Church! Talking about our final independence from Moscow. Here not only religion here geopolitics… Is a matter of national security and our defence in a hybrid war, because the Kremlin regards the ROC as one of the key instruments of influence on Ukraine”, – said Poroshenko in his address to the Parliament on Thursday.
