“The zoo wishes You a happy New year, merry Christmas and… Groundhog Day!.. The fact is that the abnormally warm winter has not only extended the flowering time of chrysanthemum and carnation not only caused early awakening germ of primroses, but was awakened marmots living in Nikolaevsk a zoo. January 3, the zookeepers noticed that the marmots already uncorked the entrance to the burrow, where they spend most of the time, and this means that the animals are already awake!” – stated in the message.
The zoo staff noted that this year due to the dry and hot summer, the marmots lay down to sleep pretty early. But this early awakening them in the winter they don’t remember. For comparison they cite the fact that in 2017 marmots woke up on February 22, almost two months after the date of the awakening of animals this year.
