KYIV, January 23 â€” RIA Novosti. Map of Ukraine without Crimea hung in city Storozhinets of Chernivtsi region at the festive stage in connection with the celebrations to the Day of unity of Ukraine, reports the local edition “Storozhynets.info”.
“At the celebrations for the Day of reunion of Ukraine prepared on the festive stage adorned with a very specific map of Ukraine â€” on the poster that are supposed to represent our state and the only Cathedral, was missing one part â€” the Crimea”, â€” stated in the message.
Unity day â€” national holiday celebrated annually on January 22, the day of the proclamation in 1919 of the act of reunification Ukrainian people’s Republic (UNR) and Western Ukrainian national Republic (ZUNR) into a single Ukrainian state. Also on this day in 1918 was proclaimed the independence of the UPR.
Crimea became a Russian region on the basis of a referendum held in March 2014, after the state coup in Ukraine. For reunification with Russia voted 96,77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of Sevastopol citizens.
Kiev still considers the Peninsula its but temporarily occupied territory.
Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for the Peninsula became part of Russia. President Vladimir Putin declared that the Crimea issue “is closed permanently.”
