Tillerson: dialogue with North Korea is possible only under condition of its availability to them

The Secretary of state stressed that Pyongyang must demonstrate a readiness for serious negotiations

U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson said on Monday that any negotiations with North Korea over its nuclear and ballistic programs can begin only if it demonstrates willingness for meaningful dialogue.

“I think it is too early to judge,’ said Tillerson during his visit to Egypt. – As we have been talking for a long time, everything depends on the decision of North Korea, whether it is ready to interact with us in a sincere and meaningful way. They know what needs to be brought up for negotiations.”

Tillerson made this statement during a joint press conference with foreign Minister of Egypt Sameh shoukry after they discussed various regional security issues, including the situation in Libya and Syria and peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Tillerson assured Egypt that the US is still going to support him in the fight against terrorism.

During the visit to Egypt, which was the first destination of his middle East tour, Tillerson will also meet with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Until February 16, he will also visit Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, and Kuwait.
