A former CIA officer accused of storing classified information

A former CIA officer was arrested and charged with illegal possession of information on national defense, said Tuesday the U.S. Department of justice.

Jerry Chun Shin Lee, 53 years old, was arrested on Monday evening after arrival at international airport new York John F. Kennedy. Lee, a naturalized U.S. citizen who currently resides in Hong Kong. He had access to top secret information and was an employee of the CIA in 1994.

On Tuesday, Jerry Chun Shin Lee first appeared before the Federal court in new York, but charges will be brought against him in Northern Virginia, where the headquarters of the CIA. He is accused of illegal possession of classified information of a defensive nature, and it is threatened by punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term up to 10 years. Jerry Lee kept in custody without release on bail.

The Ministry of justice said that in 2012 FBI agents raided the hotel rooms during his trips to Virginia to Hawaii and found two notebooks with secret information. Including names and phone numbers of undercover CIA officers, current information about their meetings and the locations of sensitive sites.

According to under oath testimony of FBI agent Lee was interviewed by the FBI five times in 2013 and never acknowledged the presence of such notebooks. He also met with former CIA and did not return any classified documents, said in the Ministry of justice.
