Deputy Prime Minister, Vitaly Mutko headed the organizing Committee for the preparation of the 23rd session of the General Assembly of the world tourism organization (UNWTO). The order was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Regular session of UNWTO will be held in St. Petersburg in 2019, writes “Kommersant”.
In addition to Mutko, the organizing Committee will include Deputy Minister of culture Alla Manilova, St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, the head of the Federal tourism Agency Oleg Safonov, head of the Department of tourism and regional policy of the Ministry of culture Olga Yarilova, representatives of the foreign Ministry, interior Ministry, Federal customs service, Finance Ministry, transport Ministry, the FSB and other agencies.
UNWTO is an intergovernmental Agency of the UN, which is engaged in the development of sustainable and accessible tourism. The highest governing body is convened every two years by the General Assembly.
27 December 2017 it became known that Vitaly Mutko resigned as Chairman of the organizing Committee of the 2018 world Cup in football. He was replaced previously held the position of General Director of the organizing Committee Alexei Sorokin.
In December 2017 the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended for life Mutko from participation in the Olympic games. The Committee stated that the officer, as Minister of sport was responsible for failures in the fight against doping and should therefore be held accountable.
