Moscow. 30 Dec. INTERFAX – Head of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion believes that in the foreseeable future, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and many other churches, may become the property of the Church, but Patriarch Kirill appealed to the authorities asking for his transfer.
“As far as I know, the Patriarch has not signed the request for the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral Russian Orthodox Church. I think that this will be done in any foreseeable future,” he said in the program “Church and world” on TV channel “Russia-24” (VGTRK).
Metropolitan believes that is created around St. Isaac’s Cathedral information noise was a kind of provocation: “to a large extent the hype around this issue has been blown out of proportion by the opposition, who are looking for topics in order to promote news stories”.
“They aim to create dissatisfaction with the current government, relations between the Church and the government. And we must understand that such occasions are used as just that,” he said.
