Ukraine expressed readiness to expand cooperation with NATO

KIEV, December 14 — RIA Novosti. Ukraine is ready to expand cooperation with NATO and member countries of the Alliance, said the Secretary of Council of national security and defence (NSDC) country Oleksandr Turchynov during a speech at the meeting of the Commission Ukraine-NATO in Brussels.

“Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine said that our government is willing to further expand and deepen cooperation with NATO and NATO countries on a bilateral basis. We are talking about all NATO States export licenses for the supply of military goods to Ukraine, in particular, lethal action, the participation of foreign partners in the modernization or the joint creation of new samples of weapons and equipment to equip the armed forces of Ukraine using technologies and components from Western producers,” — said in a statement on the website of the NSDC.

Turchynov also said that Ukraine remains a reliable partner of NATO.

“The development of relations of special partnership will strengthen our common security, and the future of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance will guarantee peace and stability in Eastern Europe and Euro-Atlantic space as a whole”, — said Secretary of the NSDC.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2014, amended the two laws, abandoning non-aligned status of the state. In June 2016 were adopted additional changes that define membership in NATO objective of the foreign policy of the country. Ukraine also needs to 2020 to ensure full compatibility of its armed forces with those of NATO countries.

Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen earlier said that joining the Alliance Ukraine will need to meet some criteria, the implementation of which will take a lot of time. Experts believe that Kiev will not be able to apply for membership in NATO in the next 20 years.
