Antioch Patriarch Kirill thanked Putin for Russia’s role in peacekeeping in the middle East

Novo-Ogaryovo. 5 Dec. INTERFAX – Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Patriarch of Antioch and all the East John to talk about the situation with Christians in the middle East.

On Monday evening the head of state received the Patriarch at his residence near Moscow.

“Will use this opportunity to talk about the situation in Syria with Christians, with the Orthodox,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Patriarch John.

He noted that a number of issues were discussed during the meeting with heads of delegations of local Orthodox churches.

In turn, the Patriarch John thanked the Russian leader for the fulfillment of the promises about the meeting, not only in the extended format with the participation of the other patriarchs, but also from eye to eye.

“I mean the promise to meet me in the extended format with the other patriarchs, so now, later in the day, I appreciate your willingness to meet,” he said.

“I would like once again to Express our deep gratitude to you personally and Russia for all that you have done and are doing in the middle East and in Syria in particular,” he added.
