Tbilisi. 23 Nov. INTERFAX – Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II on Thursday before the Liturgy in Tbilisi in the Kashveti Church on the occasion of the Day of St. George addressed the congregation in the temple and read a decree, which, according to him, it was written today.

Metropolitan Shio (in the world Elizbar teimurazovich Mujiri) was born on 1 February 1969 in Tbilisi. He received a spiritual education in Moscow, where he studied at St. Tikhon’s theological Institute and since October 2001 has served as the rector of the Moscow Church of St. George, and after his return to Georgia he served in the Church of St. Nicholas.

The status of the Bishop of the Georgian Orthodox Church received 7 September 2003, and the Metropolitan Senaksky and Choricystis was appointed on 2 August 2010. Metropolitan Shio is a friend and spiritual mentor of the current President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili.

As reported “Interfax” the Georgian Patriarchate, becoming a Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal throne, Metropolitan Shio will be able to temporarily perform the functions and duties of the Patriarch as Primate of the local Church under the conditions when the Patriarch for a variety of reasons (in the case of illness or death, until the election of a new Patriarch) will not be able to perform their duties.

Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II (in the world Irakli G. Gudushauri, shiolashvili) was born January 4, 1933 in Vladikavkaz, he studied at the Moscow theological Seminary and Academy. 23 December 1977 he was elected head of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
