White house: we regard the suspect as an enemy combatant
“We considered a suspect in the terrorist attack in new York as enemy – combatants”, – said during the Wednesday briefing, press Secretary of the White house Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Meanwhile law enforcement agencies reported that the truck driver ran over people on the bike path in new York, acted on behalf of the “Islamic state”.
“He did it in the name of ISIS,” said Deputy Commissioner of the NYPD John Miller.
According to Miller, the suspect, 29-year-old immigrant from Uzbekistan, Saifullo Saipov, who arrived in the U.S. in 2010, apparently, “almost literally followed” published in social networks recommendations of the “Islamic state” attacks on pedestrians and cyclists using the vehicles.
Police found notes Saipov at the scene where 28-year-old officer Ryan Nash shot his attacker, putting an end to the chaos that swept 20 blocks along the Hudson river.
“The note was written in Arabic – said Miller. – There were symbols and words. But their essence is that the “Islamic state” will exist forever”.
