Moscow. 9 Oct. INTERFAX – the Russian Orthodox Church together with Roman Catholic established a working group which will be engaged in restoration of the destroyed Christian shrines in Syria.
“A working group of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. This group is now a catalog of destroyed churches, and we help them to recover,” – said in the program “Church and world” on TV channel “Russia 24” Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.
He stressed that, “in addition to churches, it will be necessary to help people rebuild their communities, many houses destroyed or damaged,” and “this will take the efforts of the state and Christian Churches.”
“We first need to focus on large-scale projects of a humanitarian nature. First of all you need to create for people, including Christians, all the conditions to ensure that they feel safe,” said Bishop.
He also recalled that some of the Syrian churches completely destroyed, and many of the monasteries destroyed or looted.
