Moscow. 6 Oct. INTERFAX – the Roman Catholic Church believe that the religious factor is necessary to combat terrorism and extremism.
“It is impossible to deal with fundamentalism, extremism and violence, relying on secularism and exposing the stigma of religion,” said the Apostolic Nuncio in Russia Archbishop Celestino Migliore at the meeting of the Committee of representatives of Orthodox churches to the European Union on Friday in Moscow.
According to the representative of Vatican, in the current situation increases the responsibility of members of religious communities, necessary in order “to save civilization”.
In turn, the head of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that to counter the terrorist threat and promote extremist ideas in the religious environment of the Russian Church “pays special attention to the development of dialogue with traditional religious communities and is active in the framework of Interreligious Council of Russia”.
The Metropolitan also thanked the representatives of the local Churches for the support of the persecuted of the canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine and expressed hope that they will continue to support it.
