Hungary could recall its Ambassador in Ukraine for the education act

Hungary could withdraw its Ambassador in Ukraine because of the law about education, which has caused heated debate because of the rules of the language of instruction, according to a former Ukrainian Ambassador to Hungary Dmytro Tkach.

On Monday, Poroshenko signed a law on education significantly reduces the possibility of education in minority languages. The governments of several countries, including Hungary and Romania, said that this law violates the rights of national minorities in Ukraine. In Moscow also believe that the education act violates the Ukrainian Constitution and international obligations of Kiev.

“You can expect anything, for example the recall of the Ambassador — any demarches” — quoted Weaver Ukrainian information Agency “Glavkom”.

Weaver also said that Hungary appeals to UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and intends to prove that Ukraine has violated its international obligations and domestic legislation.

The diplomat reminded that in accordance with the international Treaty between Ukraine and Hungary, with 1991, the parties agreed to ensure equal opportunities for national minorities to learn language of the country of origin at all levels of education.

“According to Ukrainian legislation, international treaties have supremacy over domestic laws of Ukraine”, — said weaver.
