In Moscow will release a postage stamp dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin)

Moscow. August 18. INTERFAX – August 23 joint stock company “Brand” will issue a stamp to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birthday of the head of the Russian ecclesiastical mission in the Holy Land of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin).

The stamp depicts a portrait of Archimandrite Antonin, Church of the Transfiguration in the village of Baturino, Kurgan region, the Abbot of which was his father, and the mount of olives ascension convent in Jerusalem, where the priest is buried, reports the Synodal Department for Church relations with society and the media.

Additional envelopes will be issued and made stamp special cancellation for Moscow and the village of Baturino, Kurgan region. The face value of the stamps – 27 rubles.

Archimandrite Antonin (1817-1894) – a prominent Russian religious and political figure, an archaeologist, a historian, who did much to strengthen Russian presence in the Holy Land when he was the head of the Russian ecclesiastical mission there.
