MOSCOW, 30 Jul — RIA Novosti. The former head of the CIA General Michael Hayden believes that one of the reasons of leaks of classified information is a specific “atmosphere in the administration” of the United States, which does not allow to establish a direct link with the authorities.
“You get a leak, and I’m not making excuses for them when people feel that they have exhausted all possible ways to get the government to hear them. People steal (information) when they lost all of the alternatives… So I think that we are getting these leaks because of the atmosphere within the administration. If you want to stop leak, change the atmosphere,” said Hayden, the TV channel CNN.
The former head of the CIA said that when he came to office in may 2006, in the media very often there is classified information with reference to “sources” at the CIA. According to Hayden, he was able to reduce the number of leaks, having established contact with his subordinates.
“When I came to CIA in may 2006, the news was a lot of “sources”. And I think that many of the sources came from the Agency… There are ways of dealing with leaks. One of them: work with your employees… it’s My policy to the Agency was simple: to establish communication with employees. I gave them my email address. Do not suggest to the President to do it, but I gave them my email address and answered every email. I got thousands for a couple of weeks. Then they began to shrink, and leak, too,” concluded Hayden.
Previously, the portal WikiLeaks published some parts of a package of documents of the CIA, it was reported that this publication will become the largest leak of confidential papers intelligence Agency. It includes more than 8.7 million documents and files stored in the isolated internal network of the Center for cierraspice based in the headquarters of the CIA in Langley (Virginia).
