WASHINGTON, 19 Jul — RIA Novosti. The USA and their partners with social networks has significantly reduced the activity on the Internet the “Islamic state”*, says the U.S. state Department report on counter-terrorism for the year 2016.

“The recruitment of extremists through social networks remains a Central element of the terrorist campaign of the IG* in 2016. The United States and its partners have worked closely with groups in social networks and other persons, to lawfully confront and reduce the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes,” reads the report posted on the Agency’s website.
“Thanks in part to these efforts, the amount of content IG* online decreased by 75% from August 2015 to August 2016, and traffic IG* via Twitter decreased by 45% from mid-2014 to mid-2016,” notes the state Department.
“This coincided with a sharp decline in monthly releases by the official media of the IG* 761 in August 2015 to 194 in August 2016… More than that, IG* had 19 active media in early 2017, and at least forty in 2015, according to a study published by the Council on foreign relations,” adds the Agency.
