The head of the Russian Church abroad arrived on a pilgrimage visit to Crimea

Simferopol. July 19. INTERFAX – first Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad Metropolitan of Eastern America and new York Hilarion arrived Wednesday in Crimea pilgrimage visit, said the press service of the Simferopol and Crimean diocese.

“In the centenary year of the Russian revolution and the 10th anniversary of the signing of the act on the reunification of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Church Abroad first Hierarch of the ninth makes a pilgrimage to the shrines of Holy Russia. In the program of pilgrimage of 2017 included Moscow, Russia, Meshchovsk, Optina, Ryazan, Vyshenskaya desert, Diveevo, Murom, Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, Godenovo, Sergiev Posad, Khotkovo, as well as Simferopol, Bakhchisarai, Sevastopol, Chersonese, Yalta and Alupka”, – stated in the message.

Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea Lazar noted that the visit of Metropolitan Hilarion is a very important event for all Crimeans, as “the land of Crimea is the cradle of Orthodoxy, preserved to this day many Orthodox shrines”.

“Because of Crimea of the Holy Apostle Andrew began his journey to the North through the Crimea came to Russia, saints Cyril and Methodius, the great enlighteners of the Slavic peoples. Here was the Holy baptism apostles Grand Prince Vladimir,” said the diocese.

For a group of pilgrims in Simferopol planned the tour of the city and visits to Holy Trinity convent, where Metropolitan Lazar made a joint with Metropolitan Hilarion, the moleben at the Shrine with the relics of St. Luke.

The pilgrimage group will stay in the Crimea on July 25. The program Svyato-Uspensky cave monastery, familiarity with the mountainous Crimea and the shrines of Bakhchisarai, Sevastopol, the historic sites of the city and the Orthodox Church, Inkerman cave monastery, the Chersonese and St. Vladimir Cathedral.
