MOSCOW, July 13 â€” RIA Novosti. The meeting of Deputy foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and US Undersecretary of state Thomas Shannon, is scheduled for July 17 in Washington, may not happen: Russia will refuse it, if the US will not return to the discussion of the arrest of Russian departmenet, said on Thursday the newspaper “Izvestia” citing a senior source.
The previous meeting between Ryabkov and Shannon, scheduled for June 23 in St. Petersburg, have been cancelled by the Russian side. As Ryabkov said, after Washington’s decision to expand anti-Russian sanctions because of the situation around Ukraine “the situation is not conducive to the conduct of a round of such a dialogue.”
“Russia may withdraw from the meeting, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs Sergey Ryabkov and us assistant Secretary of state Thomas Shannon, is scheduled for July 17 in Washington. This will happen if the US come back to the discussion on arrested diplomatic property of the Russian Federation and will not form a mutually beneficial agenda consultations”, â€” the newspaper writes citing a senior source in the Russian diplomatic circles.
Earlier, Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said RIA Novosti that the delay of the U.S. decision on the diplomatic property of the Russian Federation increases the chances of a harsh response from Moscow, and that he had already prepared.
On Tuesday the official representative of US state Department Heather Nauert said at a briefing that the meeting will be held on July 17, however, the Russian side, this information has not been confirmed. Citing sources, the publication reports that the decision via the state Department announced the meeting in the briefing will inform the official representative of the foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
The administration of U.S. President Barack Obama at the end of December 2016, passed a package of anti-Russian sanctions because of alleged “interference in election” and “pressure on American diplomats” working in Russia. Among other things, the United States has closed access to the two residential complexes, the so â€” called suburban “summer cottages” Russia’s permanent mission in new York and the Russian Embassy in Washington, which is the Russian diplomatic property. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, commenting on the arrest of Russian property in the U.S., said that Moscow considers the internal difficulties of the US President Donald trump, but without a response it will not leave, if Washington will not do anything.
