Manchester City and Tottenham to enter Checkatrade Trophy next season

Manchester City and Tottenham have accepted an invitation to enter their under-21 sides on the Checkatrade Trophy, after having rejected the opportunity last season.

Join between Chelsea next season of the Champions League clubs in the entry next to League One and League Two sides. Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have again abstained.

Invitations were extended to the 16 best teams of the last season that are still in the category of a state. Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Watford and Hull City miss out because they do not meet the academy requirements.

The remaining 12 top-flight clubs last season, including relegated Middlesbrough and Sunderland, will be involved. So Newcastle and their fellow promoted side Brighton, with Reading and Fulham complete the training of the teams from the top two divisions.

Although the fans stayed away in droves for much of last season in the competition, more than a third of the EFL clubs voted to preserve the format for the next two seasons with a few modifications.
