Bishkek. May 29. INTERFAX – Residents of Kyrgyzstan, Orthodox Christians do not experience harassment from the Muslim majority, said Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill at the meeting with Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbekov Sooronbai, which was held on Sunday in Bishkek.

“Islam and Christianity in Kyrgyzstan together have come a long way. I felt the experience positive and friendly attitude of Muslims to the Orthodox. And the Orthodox do not feel themselves citizens of “second class”. We build and restore churches, to develop religious education. And all this takes place under the benevolent attitude of the state,” he said.

The Primate of the Russian Church noted the importance of mutual work in the fight against extremism and terrorism. “The vast majority of Muslims are friendly people. But of course, we need a joint struggle against this phenomenon (terrorism – Interfax) and the representatives of Islam and representatives of Orthodoxy”, – said the Patriarch.

In turn, the head of the Kyrgyz government emphasized that the Orthodox inhabitants of the country are represented in all spheres of life. “We highly appreciate the contribution of the Orthodox Church in the strengthening and development of the country. And Orthodox people are represented in all spheres of life – politics, business, education and many others”, – he said.

The Prime Minister added that in recent years the number of Orthodox parishes in Kyrgyzstan has increased almost twice.

S. Jeenbekov was appointed Prime Minister of the Republic in April 2016. His predecessor in the high office he resigned over a corruption scandal. According to some experts, the new Prime Minister for a short time managed to stabilize the economic situation in the country and to balance the national budget.
