Tbilisi. 17 Feb. INTERFAX – representatives of the parliamentary opposition of Georgia will start on Monday collecting signatures demanding the resignation of the chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze.
“We will use all legal means to seek his resignation,” – said at a briefing on Friday, the leader of the parliamentary minority, the member of fraction “European Georgia,” David Bakradze.
According to him, the resignation of the chief Prosecutor is due to his “reckless statement” about the alleged planned murder of a spiritual person of high hierarchy, which led to a whole cascade of political statements.
It is, according to the parliamentary opposition, representatives of the management, the content of which was regarded as the fact that someone tried to poison the Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II.
As noted D. Bakradze, on the eve of the Prosecutor’s office admitted that nothing of the sort was planned, but the public did not provide any additional information, and no apologies.
“We have said and repeated that the investigation is working on several versions, and based on the interests of the investigation, we do not reveal, said in a statement the Prosecutor’s office. We also, based on the interests of the investigation, at this stage, do not specify against whom it was preparing the murder he was accused of deacon George Mamaladze”.
According to D. Bakradze, such reckless statements should not go unpunished, and he who created this tense situation, must be held accountable.
This week, the chief Prosecutor of Georgia Irakli Shotadze said that the detained February 10, deacon G. Mamaladze is charged with the attempted murder of a spiritual person high in the hierarchy.
The Prosecutor noted that G. Mamaladze had intended to fly to Germany for treatment is the Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II, and that in his Luggage in the hiding place was discovered a toxic substance – cyanide.
This was followed by statements by the representatives of the Georgian leadership, according to which, failed to prevent big trouble.
These statements were perceived as consider in opposition, by the public as something that was prevented an attempt on the Patriarch.
