The all-new jeep Grand Cherokee in force in 2018 or 2019 will be based on the same architecture as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV and sedan giulia, FCA boss Sergio Marchionne has confirmed.
Speaking at the motor show in Detroit, Marchionne said that FCA (Fiat Chrysler automobiles) completes a feasibility study of the expediency of the construction of the fifth generation Grand Cherokee rear drive platform ’George’.
“The most natural application in the further evolution of the platform of Alfa Romeo Grand Cherokee,” said he.
“We are completing the study now, but I based on the latest information, which is that it will be the Foundation on which the Grand Cherokee will develop, if something happens in the next 60 days that says it is not feasible.
“To complete the history of architectural development for us, because I think it is definitely a big nail in a piece of history the Jeep.”
Longitudinal-engine architecture developed by Giorgio FCA at a price of around £800 and can be adapted for different types of vehicles, in addition to four-wheel drive capabilities. Development of a platform aimed to ensure it was light in weight and impregnated with a good fundamental dynamics.
The current Grand Cherokee, released in 2010, reminiscent of the “Daimler-Chrysler” era and shares its foundations with what was then called “Mercedes-Benz” M-class, now known as GLE.
