Berlin. 31 Dec. INTERFAX – German Chancellor Angela Merkel called 2016 to be the year of severe trials and stated that Islamist terrorism is the biggest problem of Germany.
“When we do our chores, our work, we say to the terrorists: “You are obsessed by hatred of the killer, but you do not determine how we live and how we want life.” We are free, caring and open,” said Merkel in her new year address.
The Chancellor noted that 2016 was the year of “hard trials”. However, she expressed confidence that Germany will be able to overcome them.
As reported, 12 people were killed and about 50 injured in December as a result of arrival of the truck at the visitors to the Christmas fair at the Berlin square, Breitscheidplatz.
A suspect in the terrorist attack, the native of Tunisia Anis Amri was shot dead by police in Milan after a few days.
Merkel called disgusting by the fact that the attack was committed by the person, who sought asylum in Germany.
