MEXICO city, 21 Nov – RIA Novosti, Dmitry Znamensky. Two major exhibitions related to Mexico, will be organized in Russia in the second half of 2019, reported RIA Novosti on Sunday in Mexico city, Director of the State Museum of fine arts named after Pushkin Marina Loshak.
“The first exhibition will be associated with one of the main cultural trends of Mexico and Frida Kahlo, but not in its traditional conjunction with Diego Rivera. We decided that separate them and came up with a notional subject “Day of death”, referring to the Mexican holiday day of the dead, and Frida Kahlo is in the center of this topic,” said Loshak.
Day of the dead has Aztec origins. The Aztecs celebrated the feast in honor of the children and the dead, and the main figure at the festival was Mr. Dead — Mictlantecutli. This holiday it is customary to visit cemeteries, but even this sad ceremony filled with joy and positive emotions. It is believed that these days the dead have to deliver as much joy. This topic has been widely displayed in Mexican art.
At the same time the second exhibition will be held in the Tretyakov gallery. “We imagined that it would be ideal to do two exhibitions, related to each other: in the Pushkin Museum – Frida Kahlo exhibition, and in the Tretyakov gallery – an exhibition of Diego Rivera and important tradition, which connects it with the Soviet art, to compare the artistic works of Rivera with the works of Soviet monumental painters such as Alexander Deineka,” said Loshak.
For his part, the Director of the Tretyakov gallery Zelfira Tregulova has told RIA Novosti that the exhibition of the Mexican muralists, including Rivera, will present their art through large-scale sketches for the frescoes, fragments of frescoes, allowing to compare with what did the Soviet artists of the 20-30-ies of the last century.
“I think it is very important to show that what happened in the Soviet Union in art, was part of an overall artistic process, which we do not know very well, because to understand the art of Mexican muralists, you need to come here (to Mexico),” said Tregulova.
Loshak also said that in 2018 in Mexico must pass an exhibition of works by Vasily Kandinsky. “First of all, the work gives the Tretyakov gallery, and we give also, and will help something to collect from the former Soviet republics. Can also be arranged in the Baroque Museum in Puebla exhibition of the Siberian, in particular the Irkutsk Baroque, or Russian historical costume of the XVIII century”, — said the head of the Pushkin Museum.
According to Tregulova, it is not more than about 20 works of Kandinsky. “We have already reserved the work of Kandinsky for this exhibition, as painting, drawings, and agreed with a number of regional museums that are willing to give work,” she said.
