Muslims for the monument to Prince Vladimir, but against a monument to Ivan IV

Russian Muslims willingly supported the opening of the monument to Prince Vladimir in Moscow and laid color, but nobody will be able to get them in the same way to be installed in Orel monument to Ivan the terrible, said Tuesday at a press conference in MIA “Russia today”, the first Deputy head of the Council of Muftis of Russia (SMR) of Renat Abenov.

“It was a unique good will of the Muslims (to support the installation of a monument on Borovitskaya square — ed.). In contrast to the previously established monument in the eagle, the personality of Prince Vladimir for us is significantly different,” said Abanov, answering questions of journalists.

He emphasized that aware of the “very positive” assessment of the Grand Duke of Islam when choosing a spiritual path of Russia’s development, and added that public initiatives, such as the installation of a monument to Ivan the terrible, the Muslim community in any case maintain does not agree.

“In the history of our people happened different periods, periods of confrontation, the tragic periods was the positive episodes in the life of our peoples,” — said the representative of the CMP, therefore, according to him, it is necessary to remind his contemporaries about the history of Russia with positive points of contact between the peoples inhabiting it.

In 1552 during the Kazan campaign, the troops of Ivan the terrible took Kazan and destroyed the khanate of Kazan. According to historians, during the assault on the city killed about 60 thousand military and civilian residents of Kazan. This was followed by the conquest of the Astrakhan and Siberian khanates.
