KIEV, 15 Nov — RIA Novosti. Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the “Opposition bloc” Vadim Rabinovich urges the Ukrainian authorities to extradite Georgia’s ex-Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship.
According to Rabinowitz, he appealed to the Prosecutor General and the interior Ministry with a request to consider the extradition of ex-President of Georgia. Since Ukraine could not extradite their nationals, Rabinovich offers a Ukrainian passport Saakashvili to take. Also an initiative he addressed the leader of the country Petro Poroshenko.
“Due to the fact that have been violated by granting him citizenship laws of Ukraine, I was asked to return all legal plane to deprive him of citizenship is necessary. In addition, we have signed an agreement with Georgia on the extradition of international criminals. Let’s not break the contract, not to fight over one person with Georgia and will issue it,” — said the Deputy on air of TV channel “1+1”.
Saakashvili, on 7 November announced the intention to resign from the post of Governor of the Odessa region in connection with the unwillingness of the Ukrainian authorities to fight corruption. He also accused the President of Petro Poroshenko in the patronage of a criminal “clans” in the region. Later, the President signed a decree about the dismissal of Saakashvili. The former Governor has declared intention to achieve early elections to the Verkhovna Rada and the plans to create in Ukraine his political power.
In November 2013, Saakashvili left Georgia after the inauguration of the new President Giorgi Margvelashvili. The chief Prosecutor’s office of Georgia in absentia brought Saakashvili charges in several criminal cases, including the embezzlement of about $ 5 million of state funds for personal needs. In 2015, Poroshenko has granted Ukrainian Saakashvili citizenship, and signed a decree on his appointment as head of the Odessa regional state administration.
