The Federation of Jewish communities of Russia spoke out against the closure of baby-boxes

MOSCOW, 1 Nov – RIA Novosti. The prohibition of baby-boxes will help to ensure that the child will leave the family, on the contrary, increase the risk that mothers will throw unwanted babies in the trash or kill them, said the head of public relations Department of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia Borukh Gorin.

Earlier, first Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on constitutional legislation Elena Mizulina said that the Russian government has supported her bill to ban the baby boxes for the anonymous abandonment of children. Mizulina, the bill provides for administrative liability of legal persons for the establishment of baby-boxes. For this offence it is proposed to introduce an administrative fine in the amount from 1 million to 5 million roubles or to suspend the activity of the legal entity for up to 90 days. At the same time, according to a survey by the public opinion Foundation, a ban on baby boxes support only 14% of the population, 7% of them attribute this to the fact that “there will be less abandoned children”. A majority of respondents — 55% — were against the ban on baby boxes.

“The survey results show that for the closing of the baby boxes is an absolute minority of Russians. These people believe that closing the baby-boxes, they will help to ensure that more children will stay in the family. However, current practice suggests otherwise — unwanted children were left in the trash or simply killed”, — quotes the words of Gorin, the press service of the FJC.

According to the press service of the Federation for the year 2015 was observed 72 cases where children were thrown out or deprived of life. “Encourage the woman to keep the child can not ban baby box, and outreach, coupled with tangible support for pregnant women”, – says the head of the public relations Department of the FJC.
