The EU will continue negotiations on the TTIP with the new US administration

MOSCOW, 29 Sep — RIA Novosti. The European Union will continue discussion of the agreement on free trade zone with the USA (TTIP) with the new American administration, said the European Commissioner for trade Cecilia Malmstrom.

“TTIP is not dead, but agreement on TTIP yet. Elections in the United States naturally lead to a pause in the negotiations, and we will continue them later with the new administration,” said Malmstrom.

According to the Agency, on Friday, Prime Minister of the Belgian region of Wallonia, whose Parliament only from the second attempt has approved a project of a similar trade agreement between the EU and Canada, said that the agreement with the United States “is dead and lies in the ground.”

Malmström added that the experience of negotiations with Canada will be taken into account in the discussion of trade agreements with the United States.

Negotiations on TTIP have been conducted since July 2013. US plans to conclude the negotiations before the end of the presidency of Barack Obama — November of the current year. We are talking about creating the world’s largest free zone with a consumer market of about 820 million people. In Europe repeatedly held mass protests against TTIP, the analogue of which is SET. Opponents fear that the transatlantic trade Pact will seriously violate the standards in the field of environment, law and employment in member countries of the European Union.
