Medina called Igor Butman, a symbol of Russian jazz

MOSCOW, 27 Jun – RIA Novosti. The Minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky congratulated the saxophonist Igor Butman with the 55th anniversary, highlighting the talent of the musician, who has long been a symbol of the domestic jazz.

“You are amazingly talented musician and a virtuoso saxophonist, has long become a symbol of Russian jazz and made an invaluable contribution to the popularization of this unique genre. Love you fans and respected colleagues not only in our country but also abroad,” — said in a congratulatory telegram the Minister.

The Minister also noted social activities Butman, aimed at supporting and promoting Russian culture.

People’s artist of Russia Igor Butman began his musical career even while studying in the Musical College named after Mussorgsky, the composer and performer David Goloschekin invited him to his band. Butman participated in concerts and recordings of “Popular mechanics” Sergei Kuryokhin and groups “Cinema” and “Aquarium”. The newspaper “the Soviet youth” called the saxophonist “Discovery of the year” in 1981, and two years later he played in the orchestra of Oleg Lundstrem. In the mid-90s, after studying at the prestigious music College in the United States, Butman returned to Russia and created its “Moscow jazz band”, which performs all over the world to this day.
