In Calais in a refugee camp, clashes broke out between police and migrants

MOSCOW, October 23 — RIA Novosti. Clashes occurred between police and migrants at the refugee camp dubbed “the jungle”, in Calais French, broadcasting company of Bi-bi-si.

Analysis of the camp migrants in the French Department of Pas-de-Calais will begin on Monday morning.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening, a group of 50 migrants threw stones at the police. To normalize the situation, the police had to use smoke grenades and batons.

Representatives of the volunteer movement Auberge des migrants and a number of other charitable organizations believe that around two thousand workers may refuse to leave the camp, as they still intend to get to the UK. According to the TV station, the authorities expect not to use force when dismantling the camp, but in case migrants refuse to leave the territory, law enforcement agencies have to intervene.

The French authorities will distribute ten thousand leaflets to inform migrants about where they can take buses. From Sunday they will start to deliver in different parts of the country where the refugees will be given the opportunity to apply for asylum.

In early September, the interior Minister of France Bernard Cazeneuve announced the dismantling of the camp of migrants, also called the “jungle.” Such action has repeatedly called on local residents. It is expected that the camp, the southern part of which was already demolished last spring, will be dismantled in the coming days.

At the moment not less than 9 thousand illegal immigrants reside in the French Calais, where the channel tunnel starts. They are looking for any opportunity to cross the channel and be in the UK. Most of the migrants fled to France from Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia, Syria and Afghanistan.
