MOSCOW, 10 Oct — RIA Novosti. Russia should not react to statements by Western politicians about the possible extension of the sanctions and develop its own economy, said the RIA Novosti state Duma Deputy from the Communist party Leonid Kalashnikov.
The head of the European Council Donald Tusk earlier said that he considered it necessary to extend existing sanctions against Russia, including because of the situation in Syria.
“I have long urged all not to react and not to wait (of lifting sanctions)… you Just need to understand that sanctions against us for too long. This should not just be used to it, and consider it to some extent, a gift. We need to develop our own economy instead of counting the days to the lifting of sanctions,” — said the Agency interlocutor.
He noted that the situation is Syria is only a pretext for the extension of sanctions against Russia.
“I say that is because even if the Minsk agreements are implemented, then they (the West) come up with a new reason. This is just the newest reason — Syria. For me, nothing surprising in this. It would not be her — would come up with another,” the MP added.
Earlier, the economic sanctions of the EU against Russia were extended until the end of January 2017.
