KYIV, October 9 — RIA Novosti. Kiev is working on the issue of termination of its membership in the CIS, said on Sunday foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
After the change of power in Ukraine in February 2014, the country’s new leadership made statements about the intention to refuse participation in the CIS. Later Kiev has withdrawn from the Executive Committee of the organization of its representative Anatol Drones.
“We are studying the question of output (CIS — ed.). We have several dozen agreements relating, for example, mutual recognition of diplomas, pension payments. And we are now completing work that will allow us to settle these agreements. We very much hope that we can make the management of these agreements separately, and then the question will rise again. I’m a consistent supporter of withdrawal from the CIS”, — said the Minister.
In mid-April 2015 Klimkin called inappropriate exit from the Commonwealth. According to him, Kiev is taking part in the activities of the CIS when it is necessary “to achieve something”.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko later said that Ukraine’s withdrawal from the CIS is unlikely, but de facto it wraps up its participation in the organization, to stop funding the total budget.
