MOSCOW, 7 Feb — RIA Novosti/Prime. The far East and the Sevastopol has won in the final vote for characters of new banknotes with denominations of 200 and 2,000 rubles, follows from the results of the contest, which ended in the TV channel “Russia 1”.
Vote for characters of new currency, whose production is scheduled for 2017, started in April this year. During the contest, residents had to determine two of the Russian territory, the symbols which they want to see on new banknotes.
According to the results of online voting that ended Friday at 12.00 Moscow time, the greatest number of votes scored Sevastopol and Kazan. Next up was far East, Volgograd and Sochi. During the TV broadcast the country’s inhabitants could with the help of SMS to influence the outcome of the vote. Their voices are summed with votes cast via the website www.Твоя-Россия.рф and during the open day the Bank of Russia.
Far East, which represent the cosmodrome “East” and the bridge on island Russian, in the end took first place. Sevastopol, presented the monument to the scuttled ships and Chersonesos, received second place.
Which of the two winners will be depicted on the banknote 200 rubles, and which the bill in 2000 rubles, will determine the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia. Banknotes will appear in circulation in 2017.
“The decision on which cities and regions will be on what the bill will be taken by the Board of Directors of the Central Bank, but of course we all remember the song “Vladivostok 2000”, — said the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina.
