The Olympic Champions may be eligible to be buried at the Federal military memorial cemetery. This was announced by the head of the Central army sports club (CSKA Colonel Michael Baryshev after the ceremony, the burial of ashes-athlete and field athlete Nina Ponomareva, reports “RIA Novosti”.
According to Barysheva, the Olympians “on a par with the military to defend the honor of Russian state.” They fall into the category of citizens who have special merits before the Motherland”. “Currently, the issue of consolidation at the legislative level the rights of Olympic Champions Soviet Union and Russia to be buried at the Federal military memorial cemetery,” said Baryshev.

Nina Ponomareva became the first athlete buried at the Federal military memorial cemetery. The athlete died on August 19 at the age of 87 years.
