Apple has closed several departments and fired a dozen employees who worked on the creation of an unmanned vehicle, told the newspaper The New York Times, three sources familiar with the situation.
The publication notes that the interlocutors are not allowed to publicly talk about it. Apple refused to comment on the matter. The NYT indicates that the loss of jobs is the “last signal” about the problems Apple related to the creation of the car.
The project itself was code named “Titan”, the company worked on it the last two years. In July, according to the publication, the company invited Bob Mansfield, former senior Vice President for hardware development of Apple products — to participate in this project.
Apple employees said that the dismissal was part of a “reset” of the project car. Under the leadership of Mansfield, according to the NYT, the company changed the focus of the project.
Apple has never acknowledged that she was working on a car, but CEO Tim cook, according to the newspaper, said that the automotive industry is changing. “It seemed to confirm the existence of a road project during the annual meeting of shareholders,” writes the NYT.
